Card Inserted/Removed when holding card near reader

Hello everyone,

I think I have a problem when holding card over card reader. If I leave
card on reader in one sweet spot everything works as intended, but if I try
to hold card in air in proximity of reader (as normal user would probably
do) or if I leave card on reader but slightly moved away from sweet spot
(like 2 mm to side) pcscd logs report card being inserted and removed in
approximately 0.5s intervals.

I don't know if this is normal mode of operation or if it is a problem. I
know it could be anything but maybe someone here had a similar problem
before and will be able to help me.

Some data:
fedora 18 x86_64
pcsc-lite version 1.8.7
Enabled features: Linux x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu serial usb libudev
usbdropdir=/usr/lib64/pcsc/drivers ipcdir=/var/run/pcscd
configdir=/etc/reader.conf.d
reader: OMNIKEY CardMan 5321 CL
driver: ifdokccid_linux_x86_64-4.0.5.1

Logs in attachment.

Thank you for any help with this problem in advance.

Regards,

Adam

It happens with most contactless readers, some readers can read cards
from 0 to 10cm, others from 0 to 3cm. Some readers can't read certain
cards when they are exactly over then too, it may depend on the type
of the card (type A,B,FeLiCa). Your reader hardware antenna may be
simply bad and can't read the card if it's not in the expected
position. One of the best readers I have tested so far is the SCL010
which can read mifare cards up to 8cm of distance and with some
degrees of freedom. This is not related to pcsclite and you can expect
the same behavior in Windows.

Thanks for the answer and SCL010 tip Bruno. I'm really disappointment with
my omnikey reader as I dished out a lot of money on it, but maybe it's just
a damaged unit. Oh well...

Adam
